February is Psychology Month

The message of Psychology Month is simple: “Psychology is for everyone.”

In Canada, one in five people experiences a mental disorder, with anxiety and depression being the most common. Psychologists do more than just provide counselling; Psychologists can also engage in research, assessment, practice, and teaching across a wide range of topics having to do with how people think, feel and behave.

Newfoundland is home to a number of psychologists and psychology practitioners, who work in various settings, including university faculties, government departments, private practice clinics, schools, and hospitals.

If you or someone you know is seeking psychological services, or is looking for more information about the practice of psychology in Newfoundland Labrador, please visit our website at www.nlpsych.ca.

President's Message

Welcome to the website of the Association of Psychology in Newfoundland Labrador (APNL)!

If you are a Psychologist and wish to contact us, please find our contact information in the "Contact Us" section of the website.

If you are seeking Psychology Services, please use our "Find a Psychology Provider" section.

The APNL is a fraternal organization dedicated to the promotion of psychology in Newfoundland and Labrador and to the service of our members across the province. Our parent organization is the Canadian Psychological Association. Currently, there are approximately 220 APNL members province-wide. APNL was known as ANP until June 2007.

Research and academic psychologists use the scientific method to study human thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Applied psychologists apply the results of that research for the betterment of humanity at the societal, policy, program, organizational, group, family and individual level.

Psychologists analyze human development across the lifespan and are an integral part of the education and health systems in this province. Psychologists in independent practice contribute to the well-being of individuals, families, organizations, and communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Psychology is for everyone!

As of the 2010 AGM, APNL has made a fee schedule recommendation at the rate of $135/hour for individual treatment provided by a Registered Psychologist.  We arrived at this decision by comparing rates in the other Atlantic Provinces, and the membership voted at the last AGM.
